What a session involves
Time to talk. Room to ask.
You choose what you want to talk about. There is no set story you need to tell and no pressure to cover everything at once.
The therapist listens and works with you to understand what matters to you. Together you discuss a focus, boundaries and a pace that feels manageable.

Your questions
Questions about these sessions.
Do I need a particular problem to start?
You can enquire even if it is hard to put your experience into words. The first conversation is an opportunity to discuss what you are looking for and whether counselling is a suitable fit.
How often would we meet?
The sample practice usually discusses a regular session time. The frequency, length of work and review points would be agreed individually rather than promised in advance.
Is counselling the same as advice?
Counselling is a collaborative conversation rather than someone telling you what to do. You can ask the therapist how they work before deciding whether to continue.
Other ways to work together.
