A collaborative conversation

There is no script to follow.

You bring what feels important, even if it is difficult to name. The therapist listens and helps you explore your own understanding, rather than deciding what your story should be.

Questions about the approach, privacy and the practical arrangements belong in the conversation too. You can take time to consider whether working together feels right.

Agreeing the work together.

A real first session would include a discussion of what you are looking for, the session arrangements and the limits of confidentiality. It is also a chance to ask about the therapist’s approach and any access needs.

Ongoing work is reviewed together. There is no promised number of sessions or particular outcome, and making an enquiry does not commit you to continuing.

Your questions

A few things you might wonder.

Do I need to know exactly what to say?

No. The introductory conversation is a chance to ask questions and say as much or as little as feels useful. You do not need a prepared story or a diagnosis.

How do I arrange a first conversation?

Use the consultation request to say how you would prefer to be contacted. On a real practice website the therapist would reply to discuss next steps. This demo sends and stores nothing.

Can we meet online?

The sample practice offers in-person and online sessions. An initial conversation would consider your privacy, practical arrangements and whether the setting is suitable for you.

What does confidentiality mean?

Before sessions begin, a therapist should explain how information is handled and any limits to confidentiality. You can ask about record keeping and those boundaries before deciding to continue.

Do you work with children?

This fictional practice is designed for adults aged 18 and over, including adult couples. The introductory conversation is used to discuss whether the service is an appropriate fit.

Do I have to commit to a course of sessions?

There is no commitment from making an enquiry. The sample approach is to discuss your needs, explain the arrangements and review how the work feels as you go.

No pressure to have the right words. Enquire when you’re ready.

Free introductory call · 15 minutes. An enquiry does not confirm an appointment.

A fictional practice
